These days everyone is more aware of the way we use fuel in our cars. Even though cars have become more efficient, other smaller engines have not changed very much. According to the Environmental Protection Agency over 5% of smog forming emissions are created by the equipment we use to maintain our yards. Small engines like gas powered weed-eaters, and blowers are some of the worst culprits. Most small engines require extra oil added in the fuel to lubricate its moving parts. This extra oil is burned just like the gas creating extra pollution. Small engines are so inefficient that even today’s gas-powered lawn mowers emit as much pollution in one hour as driving a newer car 140 miles. An older mower may belch four times as much pollution! In the U.S. we use over 800 million gallons of fuel maintaining our lawns each year. Although there have been electrical solutions for yard care for many years, it is only recently equipment has become available that is designed for the commercial landscaping crew. At Turning Leaf Landscape Maintenance We are excited to bring the Eugene area it’s first ZERO-EMISSION professional landscape maintenance service!
